Wikipedia defines Attraction Marketing as:

Attraction marketing (or reverse marketing) is the use of marketing techniques specifically designed to teach the customer what you are doing and how a service or product will benefit them well before they purchase it.”

I would define it as:

“The process of becoming famous in your field of expertise so that your prospects not only get to know you, but like and trust you as well.”

Counterfeit Attraction Marketing

You can spot a counterfeit immediately. This will be someone who gives a lot away, but every time he directs you to something he wants you to buy. Now there is nothing wrong with having a link to something your prospect can buy, but it is the way you do it. The counterfeit guy is not sharing anything about his knowledge or himself, he is just going on about how wonderful this product is, and how much you need it.

You will tire of the counterfeit quickly.

Multilevel Scammer Attraction Marketing

Lots of Network Marketers fall for “Attraction Marketing Formula.” While there is nothing inherently wrong with the formula, not everyone can pull it off, and turn it into the above: a counterfeit. A lot of marketers write “articles” that are nothing but promotion for a product they want you to buy. And if they meet you, they pitch you straight away. This is push marketing, not attraction marketing.

Real Attraction Marketing

This is when you are your authentic self, and post good quality content in the form of articles, slides and videos on your blog. The content is all focussed on your prospective customer and the problems they are having.  Each article, video or slide should show how you can solve their problem. If you post fresh, good content consistently, you will become well known in the circles you move in online. When you post links to your content on Social Media websites, and employ some traffic generating methods, you will have a lot of people who are looking for you find you.

Besides, search engines like Google love good, fresh content, and will send you more free traffic from people who are searching for you.

When you are yourself and reach out to connect with others as your authentic self, you will make excellent contacts and attract people to you. People can spot a fake easily, so be yourself!

When you factor into the above the factor that digital advertising can be much less expensive than other forms of media, you reveal the mega-trend of billions of advertising dollars finding new reach in Social Media and Digital Media in general.   Now everything else revolves around and feeds digital contacts, content, tracking, CRM, document storage, email, tracking…they all merge online at the website now.

Since almost nobody will do any business with anybody without doing research online first, you can no longer separate your overall reputation from your digital one – they are the same.

Managing ones proper name, company name, product name, reputation or all of the above online is accomplished easily, if you know how:

  1. Create a self-hosted WordPress or other well optimized blog (Self hosted because you own the real estate, the link authority, the clout)
  2. Until now, there were basically two ways to be visible online:

  1. Pay more than anybody else for every hit, lead, action, click or column-inch for a non-exclusive page populated by your competitors

I get so tired of hearing young, linear thinkers who think that they know it all talk about how the best opportunities are past!

Social Media Optimization for Bricks and Mortar Retail | Failure of Main Stream Media

 

In 2001, we had to sell online advertising by giving away free classifieds.  As we placed their free classified ad, we were able, in about 45 minutes, to load enough technical understanding into what we invented and were selling to make a sale.

 

Selling new media technology and methods in old, over-ripe bricks and mortar markets like retail clothing, sports equipment, bars and lounges, car dealerships is more education than it is selling: the cheese has already moved and is moving.

 

Early adopters like these, are dominating search results, social networks, Facebook…these are our sponsors for our little Coos Bay Social Network.  Three months ago,  these search results were dominated by the yellow pages, the chamber of commerce, Meetup.com was number one even though the nearest group was 69 miles away.  But no outdated manufactured behemoth is any match for properly optimized and promoted local content: my local clients rank for every conceivable desired search, cumulatively, for MERIT, in perpetuity! 

Yet many bricks and mortar businesses are just getting websites now for the first time; they are lacking in many search areas such as social networks and images and YouTube; and they are still spending way over the required budget on things like the yellow pages – lead generators who get almost no traffic, and who charge $300 month or more for minuscule ads on pages populated by every competitor in town – I hope your name is 1-A!

Somewhere between changing everything that was working, and to some extent still does,  over to something unknown, risking failure; or watching a slowly slipping away market fade until you are out of business, there is sanity, survival, and profits at less than the outdated yellow page ad alone costs…

In change is opportunity, and risk.  What used to be called S.E.O. (search engine optimization), was a fuzzy combined discipline of onsite optimization, black hat and grey hat hacker tricks, and taking advantage of what others do not know; but has now evolved into what I call S.M.O (social media optimization), now that social media and new media have become digital media, THE MEDIA, larger than all four of the major M.S.M.  (main stream media) networks combined.

The failure of main stream media, due to the way that it has been manipulated, diluted, bought, corrupted, politicized and corrupted by special interests (the proverbial “Man”), has leveled certain playing fields (we all have a voice) while corrupting others: to say that Fox, CNN, CBS or ABC offer hard, no-spin news is a joke!

Main-Stream-Media has been weighed- measured and found lacking

At the very least, you all need these:

  1. A modern, integrated website that you can edit and change at will, linked to all your other online assets.
  2. Google+, Google Places, Linkedin.com, Facebook and niche profiles, optimized for reputation management and organic search.
  3. An ongoing strategy of content production and distribution through social networks and groups linked-back to the website, building traffic and rankings organically.
  4. Pictures and Videos and Opinions to share,  the more the better.
  5. An understanding of basic rules for formatting Meta Data on all of the above for long-term cumulative success.
  6. An ever-increasing list of customers, employees, contacts, friends and neighbors resulting from the above, whom you can reach anytime with any message in nothing flat for free!

Instead, I am just going to tell you to forget everything you thought you knew about S.E.O., S.E.M. and S.M.O., and read this guide instead:

There are millions of conflicting guides to how to do SEO (search engine optimization) yourself; and a few really expensive courses that are always outdated before the first course is ever taught, even before the professor got out of school, and before he took his first class.

The best advice for the novice is to install a WordPress blog on their own domain and install and configure the plug-in: all-in-one-S.E.O. Pack: WordPress properly configured this way does all on-site SEO automatically. WordPress properly configured and used is an SEO machine:

Now all you need is this: how to post well from an S.E.O. point of view on any well configured blog, including this one:

  1. The Title – the title tag on a blog is the most important factor in ranking that post for the desired words: use up-to 7 key words or combinations of words called tags (I.E. ‘San Francisco’ is one tag, ‘real estate’ is one tag, your proper name is one tag) (connecting words are not counted) and do not use any punctuation rather than these characters in titles: (pike)|, (dash) -, (underscore)  _, (plus sign)+ or period .  You  may END your title with a question mark or exclamation point also, but do not put these earlier in your titles. Do not use these : ;:@~,&%$#8/\|{}[]<>=.
  2. The body –  must contain those same key words at least once (do NOT do ‘˜key word stuffing’, once or twice is enough, or whatever is natural)  I put a link back to the original article in the body, with an anchor text header containing the title words.  This is my link-back from wherever I re-post the blog articles.
  3. The tags or ‘key words’ –  must contain the same words, leave out the connecting words, and separate each word with a comma ONLY –  do not add words that are not relevant to the post.
  4. Immediately digg.com, Facebook.com, Google+ and Tweet the post or page.
  5. Re-post the article to your profiles, blogs, and content aggregation sites that are legitimate sites, not spammy link building, just internet publishing.  Post regularly to establish a pattern with the robots to revisit the page, DO NOT TELL THE ROBOTS WHEN TO COME, LET THEM DECIDE.  Whenever possible, re-post in html or text view, to avoid editors adding no-follow or other tags that change the way the content is spider-ed by the robots.

This has become a specialty: many content aggregates like our UpLog.org B2B Home Business Network are optimized for specific competitive vertical markets  like Event Planners, Real Estate, Professionals and Hospitality.  In order to achieve rankings, you will need to re-post these blog posts described above in multiple places (separate powerful websites that are on-topic, relevant) linked back to you as described.   Forget about duplicate content.  Start out with original posts and Google and the other robots will rank the source of the information on page one.

At the very least, re-post to:

  • Facebook
  • Google bookmarks (gets it spider-ed immediately)
  • Digg.com Category specific link authority), other bookmarking sites like Reddit, Technorati, Netscape etc. will also help
  • Yahoo Voices, Dzone.com – if you can get past the moderators, these are very strong links and are redistributed at places like Yahoo news, Rioters, MSNBC…
  • Linkedin.com, Google+, Facebook on-topic groups – the more of these, the greater your audience, and, again link authority
  • Activerain.com, Corporateeventchannel.com, Realtown.com, Trulia.com for real estate related; other on-topic portals, paid or free, can create link authority and traffic, and often instant rankings for very competitive local and/or on-topic searches. Example: B2B home business Google search

Definition of BRAIN DAMAGE FRIDAY! (B.D.F. for short)

Years ago, in my old company Oregonfreeads.com (which ended up going nationwide and becoming very large eventually), we were very poor, sometimes 10 of us worked from an 800 square foot office in Springfield Oregon, frantically, in very close quarters, very long hours, services a huge clientele of free ads advertisers.

The term “BRAIN DAMAGE FRIDAY” (B.D.F. for short, LOL) became a code word: because by 12:00 or 1:00 PM we were all so burned out we could barely talk; yet it seemed there was always a last minute crisis or some sort of last minute heat that would come in Friday afternoon.

So every Friday, I would slip out of our little office in downtown Springfield, Oregon, and go down to the local convenience store, and buy some very high quality and very cold beer, and bring it back to the office.  Instead of Friday being the worst day of the week, it was always our best day (in our mind) because of our ATTITUDE.  As hard as those first years were, I will always remember “brain damage Friday” fondly.  ;)  Happy Valentines Day!

Lets face it: competing online for the small businessperson is a little like being a one man band!

In the new online marketplace, content is king.  When it comes to local search, local content is king.  Eventually, the quality and popularity of that local content, whatever it’s source, will be the only thing that determines its visibility, and traditional SEO (search engine optimization) will be completely dead online (related: The slow death of SEO as we know it).

However, that day is not here yet.  Due to the proliferation of large, well capitalized lead generators of every flavor, from Expedia.com and Hotels.com and the like in the hospitality industry, to Realtor.com and Zillo.com and literally hundreds of other in the Real Estate arena, every competitive industry of any size has been cluttered up with over-capitalized public companies seeking to dominate a marketplace and sell it back to its rightful owners (the actual vendors and proprietors who offer services) using their own money, without providing any such services – not one bed, not one hotel room, not one real estate transaction.

While these middlemen are a natural progression as a new market is formed, just like the door to door salespeople who created the water filter market, the vitamin market and others industries which are now mainstream and available for cheap at Walmart; these temporary, overpriced, over-hyped, noisy competitors do not add to the services provided to consumers.  Mostly lead generators just mess up organic search effectiveness specifically, and they make it very difficult for mom and pop vendors and real estate, hospitality and other local professionals to compete for business online, and to otherwise keep up with the constant moving of the proverbial cheese which is caused by modern media merge in the meantime, and increasing prices in competitive advertising models like “PPC” (pay-per-click like Google), PPA (pay per action like affiliate programs) and other modern advertising vehicles.

Meanwhile, local newspaper circulation and local radio and TV bandwidth continues to slip, replaced by digital media, and social networks, and search engines continue to gobble up larger and larger user-ships, readerships, listenership, and audiences of all kinds.

The small advertiser must not only choose, they must also keep up, change, and compete for the eyes and ears of their intended audiences, and still compete with the middlemen.

The good news is that it is not as hard as it sounds.  Enter the

“LOCAL BUSINESS ADVERTISING  POWER-TEAM”

  •  Local businesses can combine their resources, and their REAL LOCAL CONTENT to trump the quality of artificially generated lead generators

To hit your target the right aim is essentialWhen you type “real estate social media advertising” into Google from anywhere in the world, you would expect to find Mashable.com (one of the largest and oldest tech blogs) and Erica Swallow’s article on the topic.  But you probably did not expect to find me on line one number one in the organic results above them – my oldest and least active website.  If I was paying a lead generator like Active Rain or Realtor.com or Zillo or somebody like that, I would expect to see them with their hundreds of thousands of agents, wouldn’t you?

The reason that Mashable is there is obvious, a million hits per day, thousands of SEO bloggers….but why me?  You will find your answers in this checklist for getting serious this year:

2013 New Years Resolution Checklist for Social Media Advertising

1.  This year all of my content will originate from my one strongest internet property – one automated blog website (I recommend self-hosted WordPress)

2.  Every post will contain the title in the body – up-to seven key words or tags, linked back to the original post, building a trail back to me.

3.  Every link back will be a heading 2, 3, 4 or 5 telling the robots that it is important to the subject of the post and the link target.

4.  I will then bookmark and/or re-post these articles in many on-topic groups, categories, etc. religiously to maintain and increase cumulative link authority on the topic.

5.  I will optimize every image, profile, video and other Internet resource I maintain similarly, all congruently linked back to the  source (see 1 above)

6.  I will do this more, and better than my competitors, and it will work for me.
